Frutamix – The Ultimate Mangonada in Ocoee, FL [Restaurant Review]

Frutamix Serving the Best Mangonada around Orlando
Ever since traveling to Costa Rica about 10 years ago, I’ve been in love with mangoes. I had never tried one up until that point, but they are the BEST fruit, especially in a smoothie. Recently, I was introduced to a popular Mexican drink called the Mangonada. It’s basically a mango smoothie but mixed with chamoy, Tajin seasoning, and a tamarind straw. This is my boyfriend’s favorite drink/dessert/treat, so finding a place that serves the best was #1 on his priority list in Orlando. We finally found the spot right outside downtown Orlando in Ocoee called Frutamix.
Frutamix is what you would call a “hole-in-the-wall” type of place where the employees know most (if not all) the customers. And like other establishments such as this one, the food is amazing. The employees are always extremely friendly and willing to explain all of the dishes and treats to you (they’re all written in Spanish on a board). I’ve only lived in Orlando for about a month, and I’ve been AT LEAST 6 times .
The Mangonada comes in a small and large and is the perfect balance between sweet and sour. The mangoes are fresh and you can tell the tamarind stick is freshly made as well. I love to put some of the pieces into the drink itself and eat it. There’s also a drink called a Chamofresa which is the same thing as the Mangonada but made with strawberries instead. The Chamofresa is equally as delicious. My choice for the day just depends on which fruit I’m feeling more.
They also have fresh waters made with fruits (strawberry, lemon, pineapple), but they also have one called a tamarind water. My boyfriend usually gets this as well and I’ve tried it. I actually really enjoyed it! It’s probably more of an acquired taste as it’s a bit different from anything else I’ve tried before. But, they’ll give you a sample of it if you wanna try it beforehand!
Another favorite item of mine is the Gaspacho. This is where the Frutamix name really comes into play. It comes in three sizes (small, medium, large) and they PACK it full of whichever fruits you want. Then it comes topped with salt, pepper, and lime. Pro tip: ask to add chamoy as well! Personally, my favorite fruits to use in this are strawberries, mangoes, kiwis, and pineapples. The pineapples are SO delicious!!
Frutamix also serves homemade popsicles and ice cream in all sorts of flavors. They even have a tequila flavored and cheese flavored ice cream!! I’ve tried both and if you like tequila (I’m not a huge fan), you will LOVE this ice cream. I ordered the cheese based one (I forgot what they called it), and it’s nothing you’ve ever tasted before. Think of a more like cream cheese flavor where it’s not overly sweet, but it isn’t fully savory either. Oh, and if you’re wanting food like nachos or quesadillas, they have those too! And, it’s all very authentic!
They’re located on the corner of Ocoee Apopka Road and W Silver Star Road at the stoplight. Parking can be tough sometimes because the parking lot is really small. But, trust me, you need to try Frutamix whenever you’re in the area!
